Skateboard Trucks
Skateboard trucks are typically two metal pieces that have a bumper in between the pieces which can pivot just a little bit. The top section of the truck has four holes in it and attaches to the deck via four bolts. The bottom section of the trucks attaches to the wheels which are bolted on.
Once skateboard trucks are attached to the board and wheels the rider simply has to lean or apply pressure to one side of the board to turn it. For a right turn the right side of the board is pressured and the opposite for a left handed turn. Depending on how the rider stands it will be their toes or heels that determine a right handed turn.
Skateboard trucks are the most durable and simple piece of a complete skateboard. Often one set of trucks will last the lifetime of the rider while they would have to go through many different decks and countless wheels and bearings. Even after repeated grinding they retain their strength and function. The bumpers do wear out but can be easily replaced for less than $10.
